We all have been drooling over the white version of the Samsung Galaxy S II ever since we first saw it, and have anxiously been waiting for it to be released. MobileSyrup has received a nice image that shows that the device will go on sale at Bell starting Oct 7, which is only six days away. Pricing should follow that of the black version at $149 on a three year contract, and $599 off contract, so will you be picking one of them up? Be sure to hop in the forums and let us know!

Android App Review: ChannelCaster

4

Social media is all the rage these days. From Facebook rolling out their new layout, Google+ collecting members at a record rate, or Twitter doing whatever it does, seems like you can't click on a link or sign up for Spotify venture onto any part of the without someone's status, checkin, or tweet smacking you in the digital face.

ChannelCaster: Social News looks to further the concept of social in the news space by letting you follow sources you find interesting as well as browse and check out public channels other users have put together.

The whole interface of ChannelCaster feels reminiscient of some of the more eye-candy laden apps, like Pulse. All of your sources (or feeds or whatnot) are listed on your main screen and tapping one takes you to a Timeline-esque list of the most recent happenings from that source. It's a bit difficult to explain (and chaotic sounding), but it's actually quite cool.

You can even link up your Facebook and Twitter accounts to ChannelCaster and check on people's latest updates from within the app. From what I've gathered, it's read-only right now, so don't expect to update from within the app.

Honestly, ChannelCaster is something that just needs to be seen and experienced for you to truly get the effect of it. It's a very cool approach to news, and it's made by OneLouder Apps, the same developers who brought us FriendCaster and TweetCaster, so you know it's good.

Seriously, try it out. It's free, and I think you might just like it. For those who are about to rock, there's more pictures and download links after the break.

Dell Streak 7 Honeycomb update has arrived for some

8

While it was rumored to not start until October 7th, it appears as though Honeycomb is now rolling out to some Dell Streak 7 owners. Though looking at the posts, we're not sure if that's a good thing or a bad thing quite yet.

Some are reporting that it wipes your device clean, while others say it leaves all apps intact. A wipe would make sense, however, due to the nature of the upgrade. Another issue being pointed out is the lower screen resolution (WVGA 800x480) is a little claustrophobic on Honeycomb. We're still digging around for further information since it's not been conirmed whether this is a limited regional roll-out or not. If you got the update, leave some comments and let us know.

LG Optimus 3D V10K firmware now available with 3D game converter

7

LG has begun rolling out a new firmware version for the European Optimus 3D. The new update, which carries the version number V10K, is the first to become available with LG's 3D Game Converter software. This allows just about any regular Android game to be played in glorious stereoscopic 3D, provided it uses OpenGL graphics.

LG's in the process of compiling a list of officially-supported, 3D-convertible titles, however the link provided within the converter app isn't working just yet. We gave Angry Birds Rio a try, though, and the result was pretty good -- the 3D effect was on par with the native S3D games pre-loaded on the Optimus 3D, although there was a slight performance hit compared to 2D mode.

If a game isn't on LG's approved 3D list, you can still tap "menu" and select "customizable games" to try forcing 3D mode, though there's no guarantee this will actually work.

3D aside, our Optimus 3D seems a little snappier on the new V10K update, compared to the previous V10D firmware. Unfortunately this version is still based on Android 2.2.2 Froyo -- we're still waiting on the promised Gingerbread update for the Optimus 3D.

The update hasn't been pushed out over-the-air yet, but Optimus 3D owners whose handsets are part of the "Europe Open" region should be able to update using LG's PC utility. There's no word just yet on when this update will be hitting the Thrill 4G, the AT&T-flavored version of the Optimus 3D.

Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc S now available on Vodafone UK

3

Vodafone UK has become the first British network to stock Sony Ericsson's shiny new flagship phone, the Xperia Arc S. It's currently available for free, on 24-month contracts of £31 or more per month, and at that price you'll get a monthly allowance of 600 minutes, unlimited texts and 500MB of data. Right now it seems Vodafone only has the Arc S in "midnight black", as opposed to the "pure white" version that's been shown off to the press over the past month or so.

The Xperia Arc is one of our favorite phones of 2011, and the Arc S steps things up a notch with a faster 1.4GHz CPU and additional tricks including the ability to shoot 3D sweep panoramas (though you'll need a 3DTV to properly view these). Other highlights include Android 2.3.4 out of the box, along with the same excellent 8-megapixel Exmor-R camera and Bravia-powered "Reality" display found in the original Arc.

Check out our Xperia Arc S hands-on feature to find out more about the device, or hit the source link to see Voda's Arc S product page.

Google Goggles update - Now works with the built-in camera app

8

The last Google Goggles update brought the ability to scan images and search for things within those images on Google -  the problem though, was the fact it only worked within Google Googles application and not the built-in camera app. The latest update rolled out today changes that and adds barcode services as well so that when you scan a barcode, the appropriate action is taken -- such as opening a url or sending a text message. Minor update overall but an update nonetheless. You'll find the download link past the break for you all.
