Give live broadcasts a thumbs up on Google Hangouts with Applause

6

Google has announced Applause for its Hangouts suite. This latest feature for the broadcasting and collaboration service enables views of a live broadcast to provide feedback without having to deal with Q&A comments. All that's required is a simple, quick click on the thumbs up or thumbs down buttons, which is then registered on the system as feedback for said broadcaster.

As viewers give provide the old thumbs up, data is accumulated and published under the video to inform everyone (including the broadcaster) as to how viewers are reacting to what's being streamed. It's a neat addition we're sure broadcasters and viewers alike will welcome. This announcement comes off the heels of Google Hangouts and Voice becoming one.

Google Hangouts and Google Voice are finally playing nice

130
Google Hangouts and Google Voice

Well, here's a pleasant late-night surprise. Looks like Google Hangouts finally has the long-overdue integration with Google Voice, meaning that your messages from Google Voice (and not traditional SMS messages from the actual phone number assigned to your SIM card — it's a bit of a mess to explain, we know) can finally show up in Google Hangouts.

That means a couple things. First is that you'll only need one app — Hangouts — to receive text messages and Hangouts messages. (Not sure yet what that means for voicemails through Google Voice.) It also means that you'll be able to get traditional text messages through the Hangouts extension in Chrome, which is nice.

Video first look: The Samsung Galaxy Tab Active

7

A week ago in Berlin we brought you our first look at the Samsung Galaxy Tab Active — essentially a rugged version of the Galaxy Tab 4. Today, from Las Vegas, we bring you video of said tablet.

The big points are that this is a business-based device — you're not going to walk into a store and just pick one up. But if you do end up with one for work, you'll be able to abuse it quite a bit without breaking the thing.

Most impressive perhaps is that it's got one honking removable battery. It's almost comical how big it is. Have a gander.

Sizing up the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus to Android's greatest

330

Today we got our first real look at the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus and unsurprisingly they brought all of the specs to the game. But how do they stack up against the giants of Android, BlackBerry, and Windows Phone? Although now that Apple has a 5.5-inch iPhone, perhaps calling those other phones giants isn't entirely accurate. But still, how do they compare? That's what we're here to find out.
