Samsung Galaxy S5 toolbox

Keep your favorite 5 apps close at hand wherever you are on your Galaxy S5

One of the neat – and entirely optional – software features on the Samsung Galaxy S5 is Toolbox. It isn't turned on by default, and so unless you've been poking around a little you may not even know that it's there or what it does.

Toolbox will be particularly useful if you use certain apps more than others, offering you an easy way to access five of your favorites wherever you happen to be in the phone. Read on for the lowdown.

Prototype, details of Amazon's smartphone leaks out

55
Amazon smartphone

Today we're getting our first look at what may well be Amazon's first foray into the smartphone arena, courtesy of a scoop from BGR. What we see here is a prototype, BGR writes, and clearly shows some of the interesting hardware features. A series of cameras on the front of the 4.7-inch device are said to be of the infrared variety, used to track your face and eyes to change how things look on the display, giving a 3D effect without the usual 3D hangups.

Additionally, TechCrunch reports that the flagship phone, codenamed "Duke," will run Amazon's Android-based FireOS.

We've previously seen 3D display devices die on the vine, some years ago, not really making it past a single generation of phones and tablets.

There's also supposed to be a 13-megapixel rear camera and a traditional front-facing camera as well.

Rumors of an Amazon smartphone have circulated for years — as early as 2012, actually. The Wall Street Journal last week reported that some sort of 3D phone would be ready to ship in September.

Leaked Japan-bound LG isai FL continues the war on bezels

54

What you see above is said to be a leaked image to the LG isai FL. Courtesy of prolific leaker @evleaks, the isai FL is reportedly coming to Japanese carrier KDDI's "au" sub-brand. But what's truly interesting about the LG isai FL are the very minimal bezels on the sides and top. Very, very minimal. LG's isai line of phones has traditionally been a fairly high-end, with top-quality displays, processors, and the like, and we see no reason to suspect the isai FL won't hold up to the same standards.

15

Gmail on the web has added a handy new feature which lets you quickly attach images that are already in Google+ through Android’s photo auto-backup feature. This is a really great addition, considering how easy it is to start writing an e-mail on your computer, find out you need a photo from your phone, and then have to crack open Google+ in a new tab to start rifling around to find the right shot.

Google Glass KitKat update coming this week, brings a big list of new features

48

Google has let loose a small teaser about the upcoming Google Glass update, and it looks to be a great one. For starters, the platform version is moving to KitKat, and away from the current Android 4.0.3 builds. This will bring better battery life, makes things easier to update, and open up a lot of new SDK features for developers. But that's not all we'll be seeing.
