Cut the Rope officially released for Android, available on GetJar

38

The wait is over. The hints are done. Cut the Rope has been released for Android, and it's available exclusively on GetJar. If you've yet to play it, it's a simple premise: A piece of candy dangles from a rope. Your job is to cut the rope and drop the candy into the little frog-thingy's mouth (his name's Om Nom, by the way). Sounds simple enough -- and the game play is so intuitive, my 4-year-old loves this thing -- but the latter levels can be a bit tricky. And speaking of levels, there are 175 of them, so you'll be busy for a while.

Give it a whirl. For the low, low price of free, you can't go wrong. Full press release is after the break.

Motorola Atrix Bootloader Unlocked

19

Itching to unlock your bootloader ahead of the official unlock supposedly coming with the Gingerbread update?  The2dcour over at the XDA forums has posted a method that will allow you to unlock the bootloader. This isn't a one-click root method, and it will wipe your phone's data, but it's amazing that a developer figured out how to do this before Motorola officially offered the option.

As always, make sure you read and understand the directions before you try anything that voids your warranty.

HTC EVO 3D in stock at Sam's Club -- expect double digit inventory

30

Sam's Club seems to be ready for tomorrow's big launch of the HTC EVO 3D, as a tipster sent us in a couple of pictures and let us know that you should expect "double digit" inventory of EVO 3Ds at your local Sam's Club.  No word on any pricing, but there's a very good chance it will be a few dollars (or more) cheaper than the rest.  Let's hope every retailer is ready for the demand, and that last years crush of Sprint's activation system from the sheer numbers of EVO 4G's getting activated doesn't repeat itself.  Because one is never enough, there's another picture after the break.

ngmoco and NimbleBit are bringing Pocket Frogs to Android

3

Add another iOS hit to the Android library of games, NimbleBit is porting Pocket Frogs our favorite mobile platform. The addicting game has been downloaded over 7.5 million times from the iTunes App Store. The froggy game lets gamers "collect, breed and share more than 15,000 types of unique, stylized frogs. Players can also customize their frog’s habitats and explore their pond to find rewards and discover rare items before visiting their friend’s ponds.

The game is being ported over to the Android platform using ngmoco's Mobage development services. The development engine is an SDK that allows quick Java Script-based development for developers wanting to bring games to Android.

Unfotunately the press release leaves us without a date. We're hoping sooner than later. Full press release after the break.

Now, who's ready for some frogs your favorite jeans?

Animated weather widget, clock gives you touch of Sense 3.0

16

Living where I do -- in Halifax, Nova Scotia, nice sunny days are kind of a rare thing now, and knowing when they are coming so that I can plan ahead to enjoy them is a good thing. Right now there is a multitude of weather apps in the Android Market to choose from, some better then others but today I decided to give Animated Weather Widget, Clock by Mobilityflow Arts a shot to see how I like it. It has plenty of features included and the animations thus far look great on my Desire HD:

  • Desktop widgets with digital clock
  • Animated daily weather forecast
  • Realistic Video effects of cloudiness, rain and snow
  • Multiple scene landacapes
  • Custom (user-defined) backgrounds
  • Global world weather
  • 50000+ locations worldwide
  • Auto update forecast
  • Data in Metric/Imperial
  • Geolocation (GPS Search)

The app is offered in both a free and paid version, the free version does lack some of the features such as the ability to view a full forecast and has an upgrade ad right at the top but for my purposes I really don't mind the ad. Read on past the break for more info and screenshots.

HTC EVO 3D gets an update to HTC Watch

35

And ... we've got another software update for the HTC EVO 3D. This one specifically targets the HTC Watch app. According to mikephenix in the Android Central Forums, it corrects a little issue the EVO 3D had with syncing, as well as a wake issue.

Just go to Settings>System updates>HTC software update and let it do its thing. It won't require a restart or wipe any data.

B&N doubles number of apps in Nook app market

7

Barnes and Noble, in a press release issued today, announced it has doubled the number of apps available to users in the Nook app catalog.  Popular cross-platforms applications like Evernote, Seesmic and Fandango are part of the new editions, and have been well received by Nook Color users.  In addition to the new applications, 15 of the first ever interactive Disney titles and over 50 of the popular "I Can Read" series titles have been added to the tablet/eReader's store, as well as full color versions of New York magazine and Motor Trend.

They also clue us in on an interesting bit of their market data.  The top five paid applications downloaded from the Nook app store are: Angry Birds, Astraware Mahjong, Quickoffice Pro, Drawing Pad and Aces Jewel Hunt.  The top free apps are: Fliq Calendar, Fliq Notes, Pulse News, NOOK Word of the Day and Fliq Tasks.  Approximately half of NOOK Apps are $2.99 or less and the vast majority are priced at $5.99 or less.

Of course, more than a few of you reading this have done a little wizardry and have the Android Market on your Nook Color, but seeing the growth of the native applications and the B&N market is great news.  It doesn't look like the Nook is losing steam any time soon.  Hit the break for the full press release.
