Verizon internals show VS740, looks like the LG Aloha Android phone

2

LG VS740

Everybody and their mother's raiding Verizon's pantry of late, this time with the LG VS740 making an appearance. Phone Arena says (and we agree) that this looks to be the LG Aloha -- aka the LG C710 -- and that it should sport a 1GHz Snapdragon processor, 5MP camera and 720p video playback (which is quickly appearing on more and more new phones these days). It's now rumored to launch in the second quarter, which is ... anytime now. [Phone Arena]

HTC Incredible accessories pop up

3

The HTC Incredible is coming to Verizon...we all know that much. We've given you guys official specs, rumored launch dates, leaked manuals, and every little morsel and bit of information we could gather on this highly anticipated HTC built, Big Red supported device.

The latest leak regarding the HTC Incredible is an accessory line that popped up in Verizon's Equipment Guide. It's fairly standard stuff--cases, batteries, screen protectors--so there's not too much to take from it but one cool thing is that there'll be an extended 2150mAh battery for sale (orig is reported to be 1300mAh). Now that's juice. And you know once the Incredible is officially official, the Android Central store will have you covered on anything you want! [phandroid]

Would HTC really buy Palm ?

7

So the big shocking news (or non-shocker, depending on your view) is that Palm is making itself available for sale. It's a little too early in the game to jump to wild conclusions but Bloomberg sources say that HTC and Lenovo are both in the mix to make a bid to buy Palm. And though Lenovo has some Android ties, no company has backed Android like HTC. HTC buying Palm would be epically huge in this smartphone world of ours. Epic. -ally. Huge

Think about it. HTC produces stellar hardware for both Android and Windows Mobile. Some could say that HTC is half the reason why Android is so successful and why Windows Mobile is still alive. If HTC suddenly bought Palm, would HTC start building webOS devices as well? Or would they stop manufacturing devices for Android and Windows Mobile and go strictly webOS? Or would nothing happen, and HTC simply let Palm stay Palm and just continue to build for Android and Windows Mobile? There are questions abound and the ramifications would be huge because half of the players in the smartphone space are involved (other half being: Apple, RIM, and Nokia).

And we're not familiar with patent law, but could HTC buy Palm and use Palm's library of patents against Apple in Apple's lawsuit? Ammo for a potential don't sue me because I can sue the pants off you type move? But if Palm's patents are that valuable, wouldn't everyone be interested? There's so many more questions to ask that we can't wait to see this thing develop. The smartphone world as we know it is going to change.

So, would HTC really buy Palm?

Mysterious MotoBlur device comes from the wood ward?

8

We've been watching this one for signs of life since it first appeared (and now has been pulled). DroidDog was given an image an unknown square Motorola device running Android 2.1 and MotoBlur. The story goes that it was from someone's brother's best friend's sister's, cousin's roommate (or something like that) who was lent this device to use, and didn't realize they weren't supposed to send pictures to people on the internet. Either way, real, fake, specs, who knows, there is no information, and the original post was removed at the original leaker's request.

But now that it has been leaked, odd's are people with further information will come forward about it, and hopefully we can get some factual information about the device, and some better pictures. If you happen to have them, feel free to use that "Tip Us" feature above! [via DroidDog]

Samsung Galaxy S passes the FCC

4

Samsung Galaxy S at the FCC

See that silhouette up there? That's none other than the Samsung Galaxy S (see our initial hands-on and software hands-on) going through the Federal Communications Commission, and with AT&T's 3G bands, to boot. That said, it doesn't necessarily mean we'll actually be seeing it carried by AT&T. But it does mean that you can rock the 1GHz, Super AMOLED, Touchwiz 3.0-sportin' phone without worrying about guys in suits showing up at your door. [FCC via BGR]

Verizon NFL app officially launching Monday, but you can get it today

10

You read that right. Starting Monday, Verizon reportedly is launching its NFL coverage after wrestling away rights from Sprint. [via Gizmofusion] Included will be live streaming video of draft coverage, Thursday night games, NBC Sunday night games, and live audio of every NFL game. Combine that with player stats, Red Zone videos, and fantasy football integration and you've got yourself a winner.

This is available for the Motorola Droid and Devour, and the HTC Droid Eris. The app is free for the 2010 season but will become a paid app starting Jan. 11, 2011. There are no additional fees to use the service (yet, anyway), but note that it does count against your data usage.

Oh, and if you can't wait until Monday, the app's already leaked out and is available at Droid-Life.

Xperia X10 officially lands on Rogers

1

xperia x10

The long anticipated Xperia X10 looks like it has finally landed a home for itself on the Rogers network. This device, which we've got in-house (and had our hands on not only once, but twice now) doesn't seem to get more appealing the more you look at it. The Xperia X10 sadly will was released running Android 1.6, but have no fear, it is supposedly going to be joining the real world with Android 2.1. The device will also release with an updated Timescape, and Mediascape, which is a few of the features of the phone that are geared towards social networking. It appears as though you can snag one of these upon release for $149.99 and three years of your life, but don't worry, they are going to include a 16GB microSD for you! Check out more information about the device as well as pricing after the break. [Rogers Pre-order via Mobile Syrup]

Verizon Droid Eris hits end of life in May

11

Droid Eris end of life

Verizon Droid Eris owners, take note: Your phone is on the way out. Sorry, that's just the way it is. Above is a screen showing the PCD - ADR6200 (aka the HTC Droid Eris) listed under End of Life Devices -- meaning it, indeed, is headed for the big smartphone convention in the sky. Yeah, that's pretty quick, considering it was only released last November. The good news: There's no reason to freak out. Your phone will still work. Nobody will come to your house and take it. It's just nearing the end of its sales life.

Gee. Wonder what could be replacing it. [via BerryScoop]

Review: Motorola Devour on Verizon

20

Motorola Devour review

The Motorola Devour (video hands-on) came at a tough point in the smartphone world. It's the first Android device from Moto and Verizon to come after the wildly popular Droid. And while we pretty much knew from the get-go that we weren't looking at a Droid 2 -- the smaller screen was an early giveaway -- that didn't really seem to lower expectations. In some ways, Moto met them. In others, not so much.

So join us after the break as we take a look at the Motorola Devour and find its place in the Android lineup.

Verizon's doing something on Monday ... Incredible? Or just Pink? (or football?)

23

Verizon Monday

So Verizon has some "journey" that it's beginning on Monday. While we're all waiting on the HTC Incredible to be announced any day now, we're not quite sure it fits the "it's new, it's unique" line that Big Red's touting here. Instead, it's quite possible that it's referring to the fabled Microsoft "Project Pink" that's also rumored to be announced then, and that certainly would match up the "let's get social" line. (FWIW: Engadget's thinking the same thing.)

Hey, we definitely want to see the Incredible announced and released, like, yesterday. But we're not going to put all our eggs in that basket just yet. [via BerryScoop]

Update: @slundberg01 offers another theory: "The journey on Monday for Verizon is NFL mobile. It releases Monday. There will be new phones but that's not Monday. that's why if you look at that flyer it was a football thrown through the paper."
