Dell Streak 7 for £100 right now for UK buyers

7

The Dell Streak 7 may never have been the most popular tablet ever released, and it may also be discontinued officially. That doesn't stop British retailer Currys shipping them right now for an online only price of £99.97

The listing still shows the Streak as shipping with Froyo, but Dell began rolling out Honeycomb for the device a couple of months back. At the £100 price point we're in impulse buy territory, so if you want one hit the source link below. They might not be about for long.

Amazon's Kindle Fire rooted yet again after the 6.2.1 update

3

Look at what we have here, an update for the Amazon Kindle Fire on Dec 20, and it has been rooted already again on Dec 23. It is always nice to be able to keep up to date with the most current OS versions because they tend to make performance better and fix previous issues, but no one wants to be without root, right? Thankfully we have some amazing people hard at work behind the scenes and Rootzwiki and AndroidPolice have teamed up and released a root method for the Kindle Fire already. If you took the update and want to root, or skipped the update until it was rooted, be sure to hit the source link to check out what you need to do and how to do it!

Want Face Unlock on your Nexus S? We've got it

20

Because of the Samsung Nexus S' VGA front camera, face unlock was left out of the official and AOSP builds of last year's reference phone.  You know where this is going -- the files have been yanked out of the Galaxy Nexus and face unlock is working in all it's gimmicky goodness.  It's even working with a beard and glasses.

It goes along great with a pair of AOSP builds and a few tweaks for the Nexus S twins, which are available as well.  This is why we love Android, open-source, and Nexus phones.  Ice Cream Sandwich is running better than most expected on year-old hardware, and we're having a blast playing with things.  We have the phones, we have the code, let's tear the roof off this mother.

Be sure to grab the right version for the right phone below.

Sprint only: AOSP 4.0.3 for the Nexus S 4G
AOSP 4.0.3 for the GSM Nexus S

Android Central staff #FollowFriday holiday edition

8

One of the few times throughout the year when there won't be a mountain of Android news is coming up.  We're talking about Christmas, of course, when the western world takes a few days off and we eat too much, drink too much, and spend time with our loved ones.  Everyone here at AC is stoked at the thought of all the Android phones and tablets that will be unwrapped come Christmas morning, and we'll be sure to be watching our friends and followers on Google+ and Twitter to see how their holidays are going.  Join in the fun, and give us a shout to let us know how you're enjoying your holidays, or just to say hey.  Without you guys we wouldn't have near as much fun doing what we do here, and we appreciate each and every one of you.

Sony Tablet S to get Ice Cream Sandwich update, timeframe coming 'soon'

19

Some may love the shape of the Sony Tablet S, some may hate it, but one thing everyone can agree on is that it will be better with Ice Cream Sandwich.  According to staff at the Sony Tablet discussion forums, the Android 4 update for the Sony Tablet S is happening, and the timeframe for said update is "coming soon."  The Tegra 2 tablet with the unique look and feel wasn't a huge hit for Sony, but it's nice to see them continuing support and keeping behind this one.  We'll keep our ears open and let you know when "soon" turns into an actual date.

This is not the Samsung Galaxy S III

56

Now you know how I hate to burst anyone's bubble, especially this close to Christmas. But -- oh, who am I kidding. I love to do that. Especially this close to Christmas.

This is not the Samsung Galaxy S III. It's not a leaked render. It is, however, a nicely done concept render, and it managed to fool a few people today, judging from the amount of tips in our inbox. But, no, folks, it's not the Samsung Galaxy S III, which has not been announced, has not been leaked, and is not seen in the picture above.

Repeat: That is not the Samsung Galaxy S III.

We all straight now? It's a fan render that was posted to some Russian "Samsung Phone Owners' Club" group, then reposted on a couple other sites and picked up before Concept-Phones published an update. Whoopsie. Again, not real. Move on.

Ashley Madison for Android: A bad app for doing bad things

34

It's tough to listen to satellite radio these days without hearing an advertisement for Ashley Madison, an online community that boasts having more than 12 million anonymous members looking for some degree of companionship. The difference between Ashley Madison and other dating sites is it openly caters to people looking to have discreet affairs.

I'm happily married, and having an affair with someone online isn't exactly on my agenda anytime soon, much to the relief of my wife and kids. But I also can't escape those damn commercials. And since Ashley Madison has an Android application, I figured it was in my professional duty to check it out. A few thoughts, after the break.
