In all seriousness, congratulations to the Windows Phone 7 team (and our pals at WMExperts) for reaching RTM status. It's a huge step in finally getting Windows Phone 7 to consumers (and we're excitedly curious to use it, too). Every smartphone launches with bugs. But we usually have to find them ourselves (see our monster thread on the Epic 4G). Not so with the Verizon Fascinate, which has had its launch bugs leaked out for all to see. A good chunk of them are small nitpicks, but others -- don't press the search button while you're on a call! -- are pretty big. And still others are amusing -- you can't download an OTA update over Wifi, but a future OTA update will fix that. After launching a new version of its website recently, AppBrain has brought many of the new sorting features to its Android app. In addition, AppBrain now has a social element so you can follow other users to quickly browse what apps they have installed. You can log in to Facebook to see if your friends use AppBrain (they should!) or browse by popular users. When we talked a couple weeks ago with Adobe platform evangelist Ryan Stewart, we talked about how Adobe Flash and AIR can help developers work for multiple platforms with minimal changes to the code. But talk gets us only so much understanding. After the break, video with Christian Cantrell from the Adobe AIR team, who shows a simple Reversi-type game on the Mac, Windows 7, Linux, iOS and Android -- all with the exact same code. Gartner Inc., a leading information technology research company, is forecasting that Android OS will be #2 in market share by the end of 2010, only behind Symbian and will even challenge Symbian for the top spot in 2014. A year ago, Gartner predicted that Android would claim the #2 spot eventually, but not until 2012. The increase in popularity and manufacturer support has driven them to change this forecast.

Symbian still has a large share of the market due to its proliferation in mass markets. Android will be challenging them in those markets soon enough, according to Gartner:

"Gartner expects manufacturers such as Samsung to launch many new budget Android devices in 2H10 that will drive Android into mass market segments. Other players, such as Sony Ericsson, LG and Motorola, will follow a similar strategy. This trend should help Android become the top OS in North America by the end of 2010."

This is a sign and example of Android's growth. Gartner, along with other research companies, had expected Android to gain considerable market share, but not for a couple years. The fact that they are now expecting it to claim the #2 spot by the end of this year showcases its popularity and adoption. [Gartner]

Canadian carrier Rogers has announced that the HTC Magic + (that's the name they have given their refresh of the venerable HTC Magic) is now receiving the Android 2.1 update via OTA. Yes, it happens to be the same 2.1 update they have been talking about since February of 2010.  Good things happen to those who wait.

To jumpstart the OTA process on your Magic +, head to menu, settings, about phone, system software updates and select to check now.  This will fire off a ping to the server, and if you're lucky, you get a tasty eclair dessert in return.  [@RogersMary]
