Amazon outs Motorola Droid Bionic desktop dock, car dock [updated]

16

Update 2: ... And Amazon's pulled the pages.

Might we be getting our best look at the Motorola Droid Bionic here, from Amazon? If a pair of product pages are to be believed, we most certainly are. And is that a chrome ring we see around the phone?

At the left is the desktop dock, which is billed as "A station with an extra sense. With ESP technology, you decide which apps and short cuts to keep on your home screen and the dock remembers." In addition to charging the phone, it's also got a 3.5mm audio jack for outputting music, or taking calls.

And on the right is the vehicle navigation dock with rapid vehicle charger. It's also said to have that same ESP technology, which really is just a fancy way for saying the phone knows when it's docked and will switch to car mode -- just like other docks.

No pricing or release listed on either, though you can sign up to be notified when they're available.

Update: Droid-Life spotted a nice rear shot of the desktop dock, showing three USB ports and an HDMI out port. Pic's after the break

HTC EVO 3D case review: Mobi Products Hard Shell

8

You took the plunge. You're sporting Sprint's and HTC's latest and greatest, and now you need to protect your newfangled investment. Let me introduce you to the Mobi Products Hard Shell Case for HTC EVO 3D. It's thin and smooth, but without sacrificing protection.

The case comes in a two-piece, snap-on design, with front and back pieces. It's simple to click together the pieces and install, but once it's on your phone, it cuddles up nice and tight, not likely to come off in the event of a drop.

There are all the standard cutouts for the various ports on your EVO 3D, as well as a fitting hole for the phone's dual cameras. Despite the overall thinness of the case, there's just enough thickness added to keep your camera lenses from sticking out from the rest of the phone. You also get a few millimeters of thickness on the front of the case, ensuring your phone's touchscreen never makes contact with anything if it's set face down.

It also features that soft-touch plastic that's become all the rage these days, so it feels good in hand as well as slides in and out of pockets (and probably purses) easily.

The Mobi Products Hard Shell Case for HTC EVO 3D comes in black, blue, red, purple, and pink, and is available in the Android Central Store for $12.95. More pictures are after the break.

ThunderBolt case review: Seidio Surface Extended

18

So you've got an HTC ThunderBolt extended battery. Can't blame you there. Now you need a case that'll fit it. Enter the Seidio Surface Extended Battery Case for the HTC ThunderBolt. It's redesigned to fit the extended battery, but doesn't mask any of the phone's functionality.

Let's start without even putting the case on. The inside, where it touches the battery cover, is covered in felt, so you won't scratch the cover. You attach the case by starting on the side with the volume rocker, then snapping on the opposite edge. (You remove it in reverse.)

Once the case is on, the sides and rear of the ThunderBolt are completely covered. There are cutouts for the volume rocker, camera, flashes and microUSB port. The exterior of the case is done in soft-touch. It's got just a tad more of a plastic feel than the ThunderBolt's stock cover, but you might not even notice. The case covers the ThunderBolt's metal kickstand, but has its own plastic kickstand to replace it. It's not as elegant as what's on the phone, but it'll get the job done.

The case extends past the front of the phone just a millimeter or so, which should keep the glass from being scratched when left face-down.

The Seidio Surface Extended Battery Case for the HTC ThunderBolt fits the 2750mAh and 3200mAh extended batteries and is available in the Android Central Store for $27.95. We've got more pictures after the break.

Accessory review: Seidio CONVERT Combo for Samsung Nexus S

2

Tired of switching cases on your Nexus S (all models) anytime you need something extra rugged?  The Seidio CONVERT Combo case for the Nexus S is something you'll want to have a look at.  The first layer is the smooth and slim Seidio Surface, which offers a tasteful look and protection enough for everyday use, but combined with the top layer of rugged silicon skin and the plastic skeleton frame makes it perfect for outdoor activities or use on the job.  Top it off with the face-in belt holster and included screen protector, and you're ready for anything.

In either configuration you have access to all the ports and controls, and while the tough rubber skin is on everything is covered by a protective flap to seal out the dirt and dust.  These are easily opened for access to anything you would need to do, whether it be snapping a quick picture or using the microUSB port.  The headset jack has it's own cut-out, so the protective flap can be closed while you're jamming out or using a wired headset.

The included belt holster swivels and locks in place in seven different positions, so you're sure to find the one that feels just right.  It's also a great way to carry your Nexus S in the car while clamped to the sun visor.  The holding clip locks in place to keep it from opening when you don't want it to, but a quick flip of the latch allows you to open it easily.  No matter which flavor of Nexus S you're rocking, the Seidio CONVERT Combo case kit will give you just the amount of protection you need, and looks good while doing it.  Check out a slew of pictures after the jump, and grab it in the Android Central store for $47.95.

Hands-on with wireless charging for the HTC ThunderBolt with the Energizer Inductive Charging Pad

23

If you've got an HTC ThunderBolt on Verizon, chances are you spend a lot of time charging the thing. I will never again be plugging in my ThunderBolt, however. Picked up Verizon's wireless charging battery cover for it recently and paired it up with an inductive charging pad -- it uses that newfangled Qi charging system -- and couldn't be happier.

Here's how it works: You pop the wireless charging cover onto the ThunderBolt. It looks nearly identical to the stock cover -- same soft-touch coating and HTC logo, though it is just a tad bigger. Not nearly as big as the ThunderBolt's extended battery, but you will notice a very slight bulge.

Then there's the Energizer Inductive Charging Pad. It's just as simple. Plug the AC adapter into the wall, then put the phone on top of it. It's that easy. But probably the best thing about it are the Qi logos, which help you properly position the phones for charging. You really don't have to think about it at all. And as an added bonus, there's a USB port on the back of the pad, so you can plug in a third device without taking up an extra wall plug. Nice.

We're using the ThunderBolt here, but Verizon has wireless charging backs for the Droid 3, Revolution and Droid Charge as well, and there are third-party backs for some other devices, too.

We've got video and a couple more pictures after the break.

Harman hops on the Android Open Accessory Protocol train

4

Harman International Industries -- the company behind such audio giants as Harman Kardon and JBL -- has announced it is supported the Android Open Accessory Protocol. That's the feature announced back at Google IO in May that will let you connect your Android 3.1 tablet and Android 2.3.4 smartphone to, well, anything.

The obvious play here is for car audio, and Harman specifically mentions its Aha Radio service. But also look for navigation and steering wheel control, as well as being able to share music and movies to passengers' seats as well.

No word on when we'll see AOAP-enabled dash units, but it's gonna be pretty sweet when we do. Check out the full press release after the break.
