Thumb Keyboard receives significant update to v4.3.2

28

Finding the right keyboard for your tablet can be tough. It's like shopping for a smartphone really, different strokes for different folks and not any one app is going to cover everybody. That said; Thumb Keyboard certainly tries to cover all bases and requirements a user may run into and the latest update shows adds some pretty interesting features as you see in the video but here's a run down of them all:

  • Coverflow theme browser with 24 themes (more to come)
  • Option to adjust the width of the split keyboard to the range of your thumbs!
  • Customizable toolbar
  • Option to change the secondary symbols on the letter keys
  • Resizable font
  • Text shortcut buttons (save and re-enter much used phrases)
  • New prediction feature: predict next word based on previous one.
  • Better prediction by the use of new dictionaries
  • 4.3: new theme browser, lots of new themes, customizable sec. symbols
  • 4.3.2: new landscape layout with cursor keys, new themes

Having been using Thumb Keyboard on my Motorola Xoom for the past 24 hours now, I can safely say that it is leaps and bounds better then the built-in keyboard. Having customizable options is pretty awesome, especially being able to adjust the height of the keyboard, as standard settings for me seem too large. Add the themes added by WJD Designs and you've got a whole new look to your tablet. If you're shopping around for a new keyboard layout, give Thumb Keyboard a look. Screen shots and download links can be found beyond the break.

Twitvid Android app now available

2

Sharing videos on Twitter just got a little easier, with Twitvid releasing its own Android application. With it you'll be able to record photos and video, insert a message and then upload straight to Twitter. Sure, many Twitter clients already include that functionality. But if you want something that's straight to the point, without a lot lot of other functionality, Twitvid might be the way to go. It's free, and we've got download links after the break.

This old and busted Motorola Droid just won a new Droid 3!

It's been a week or so since we asked you to show us your old and busted phones in hopes of winning our new hotness Motorola Droid 3. Upward of 600 entries later, we found ourselves a winner, plucked at random from the pile of decayed and decrepit phones. And it's fitting, because Android Central Forums member lorzee just happens to have an original Motorola Droid that's unlikely to be allowed through airport security.

But that's not all. In addition to lorzee winning the Droid 3 (plus $50 worth of accessories and an Android Central T-shirt), we've got more winners.

  • tralfaz wins $50 worth of accessories, and an Android Central T-shirt.
  • And dra, trusteelfan and bacumings each wins an Android Central T-shirt.

Congrats, everybody! And we'll absolutely have more contests coming up soon.

Video shows progress bringing CyanogenMod to LG Optimus 3D

7

We already knew that CyanogenMod 7.1 was on its way to the LG Optimus 3D (aka LG Thrill 4G), but now we have some early video footage of the popular custom firmware running on LG's new flagship phone, courtesy of developer Ricardo Cerquiera. The video shows a surprisingly functional build, with video, Wifi, browsing and OpenGL all working without a hitch. The early build also manages an impressive 58 frames per second in the NenaMark benchmarking app.

Ricardo mentions on Google+ that he's already got 3D video working, so it looks like Optimus 3D owners won't have to sacrifice any of that stereoscopic goodness to run CM7 when the time comes. As ever, there's no ETA for any nightly builds or release candidates, but we look forward to seeing more of CM7 on the Optimus 3D just as soon as it's ready.

Motorola Titanium mini-review

6

The Motorola Titanium is the latest Android Nextel device, complete with a full portrait keyboard and push-to-talk features.  It's rugged, meeting MilSpec 810G for dust, shock, vibration, low pressure, solar radiation, high temperature and low temperature, and looks to be the replacement for the Moto i1, which was the previous Nextel Android phone.  After a bit of time with it I think this would be a logical choice for the jobsite foreman, or anyone in uniform that needs this level of ruggedness, at the expense of performance.  Yes, this phone is not perfect.  After the break, check it out with me and decide if this one fits your needs.

Vote for your favorite Android phone in our Readers Choice Awards polls

It's time to show support for your favorite Android phone with our readers choice polls in the Android Central Forums.  We've got them set up for the four major US carriers as well as Europe and Canada, and now we need your help to find the winners.  We're only listing currently announced and available phones, so don't be surprised that the quad-core Rumor-Machine 9000 isn't listed yet, but we've got the great ones covered.  Jump in and vote for your favorite!

Droid Bionic with its top off

16

Get the feeling that the Motorola Droid Bionic -- which is hitting stores sometime next month -- is in the hands of a few few testers? Yeah, us, too. Here's a new pic that was dropped into our forums. (Full disclosure: We've cropped out the beyond-spammy watermark on this pic; you can see the whole thing at the source links below.)

Anyhoo, not a whole lot to see here. Big battery (but will it be big enough?), the 4G LTE SIM card, and a spot for the microSD card.

Droid Bionic poses for yet another unofficial photoshoot

35

By the time the Droid Bionic finally hits Verizon shelves in September it’ll seem like an old familiar friend. Above is a shot from yet another impromptu photoshoot of the Bionic showing off its sexy physique. Unfortunately we don’t get a great look at the UI, but hey, we hopefully have only a month left ‘til we’re all able to feel one up ourselves. Until then, hit the source link for a few more shots, and try not to drool on your keyboard.
