Video first look: The Samsung Galaxy Tab Active

7

A week ago in Berlin we brought you our first look at the Samsung Galaxy Tab Active — essentially a rugged version of the Galaxy Tab 4. Today, from Las Vegas, we bring you video of said tablet.

The big points are that this is a business-based device — you're not going to walk into a store and just pick one up. But if you do end up with one for work, you'll be able to abuse it quite a bit without breaking the thing.

Most impressive perhaps is that it's got one honking removable battery. It's almost comical how big it is. Have a gander.

New Nexus at Super Mobility Week? Wait, no, that's Nexius

40

Google making a splash with Nexus branding at Super Mobility Week? Well, a quick glance at the above photo and you might have thought that. Instead, it turns out this company Nexius is walking that line of brand confusion quite nicely. And it also wants to "Transform your business ... through wireless" apparently.

Sizing up the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus to Android's greatest

330

Today we got our first real look at the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus and unsurprisingly they brought all of the specs to the game. But how do they stack up against the giants of Android, BlackBerry, and Windows Phone? Although now that Apple has a 5.5-inch iPhone, perhaps calling those other phones giants isn't entirely accurate. But still, how do they compare? That's what we're here to find out.

Moto responds to iFixit battery size confusion

56

There's been some hubbub in the past few hours over the Moto 360 not having the size battery it claimed — iFixit's teardown showed 300 mAh versus 320 mAh claimed on the spec sheet. Perhaps not a huge difference, but every little bit of juice counts in a smartwatch, particularly since the 360 has proven to be a little finicky.

Motorola has responded to inquiries about the matter, and they gave a statement to ComputerWorld.

Here's the deal:

Tasker advanced use

50

I love Tasker. And I say it a lot. I say it so much that my keyboard's prediction now pops up Tasker after I type the word love. And Tasker can do a lot. A whole lot. But in order to do it, it needs to be programmed or you need to stick a button on your home screen, or a gesture control. I covered voice controls last time, and today, rather than using them for media controls, we'll be using them for something far more helpful: squeezing more battery out of your phone. I was also contacted by the wonderful wizard of Tasker plugins, João Dias, and he gave me a more targeted manner of playing media using his AutoShare plugin, which I'll share later in the article.

Dell Cast brings wireless tablet mirroring to the boardroom

6

Dell has launched a new dongle awfully similar to Google's own Chromecast, except with a few key differences. Like Chromecast, the Dell Cast plugs into the HDMI slot on a TV or projector, and is powered over USB. However, you can then pair up a Bluetooth mouse and keyboard, and once set to Productivity mode through the coupled Android app, the Dell Cast builds a classic desktop-style layout on the larger screen.

Celebrating 15 Years of Mobile Nations!

390
15 Years!

On September 9th, 1999, the origin story for Mobile Nations began when VisorCentral launched from my student apartment at University of Florida. Immediately the website became a fixture of the Handspring Visor online community by delivering high quality and reliable news, articles, reviews, and an active forum.

While today the Visor is a relic — I'm sure many of our younger readers have never even heard of it before — 15 years later we are stronger than ever delivering the same experience that made VisorCentral a success. Over the years we have navigated the many shifts in mobile platforms, and today Mobile Nations reaches over 32 million readers every month through Android Central, iMore, WPCentral, CrackBerry and our newest site, Connectedly.
