Verizon is giving you an extra GB with a new data plan

89

Verizon has announced that they will be including an extra gigabyte of data to customers who sign up for a new data plan. According to Verizon, you'll need to upgrade your phone or activate a smartphone on a More Everything plan with at least 1GB of data to get these free bits and bytes. This is in addition to the recent announcement of new 2GB single-line plans for $60 monthly that we heard about last week.

Your free gigabyte is recurring, and you'll get it every month for the life of your new contract. While it's not a lot of data, Verizon reminds us that it equals watching two movies, 2,000 visits to the Internet or 10 hours of live NFL games. Not bad for free!

This week's sidebar poll: Would you buy the Moto 360 for $250

183
moto 360

Is $250 the right price, if it is the right price?

Much speculation has been spent on the price of the coming-soon-we-hope Moto 360. An appearance on Best Buy's website over the weekend has lain much of it to the side, as the listed price is given at $250. We want to caution everyone that things which show up early on BestBuy.com aren't always final, and point you to the Droid Bionic as a perfect example. Having said that, the $250 price doesn't seem unreasonable. I think it's probably right.

So here we are. We have a price that may be correct, and it's not too high or too low to be impossible. If the $250 price sticks and that's the retail for the Moto 360, are you buying one?

Wearing a regular watch instead of a smartwatch is still a nice thing

80
Watch

Smartwatches are obviously the new darling among the nerdy tech crowd. It started picking up pace during 2013, continued through CES – and at Mobile Nations with the launch of an initially dedicated site – at the start of this year and now we've got many an Android fan literally screaming in delight at the seemingly imminent arrival of the Moto 360. I'm part of that crowd, I wear a Pebble pretty much every day, especially when I travel and it's become an accessory I enjoy wearing.

What the Pebble has also done, perhaps strangely, is increase how often I wear a regular watch. I'm no watch fanatic, not by any means, but far from replacing regular watches wearing a Pebble has actually led me to wearing them more.

The Best Chromebook you can buy in August 2014

94
Acer C720

The best of the best

We love Chromebooks here at AC. We use them for having some fun on the web as well as getting our work done, and know from experience that they are the best "walking around" laptops you could ever want in your backpack or messenger bag. In fact, if (when?) Google gets a few more utilities available for Chrome, like a non-linear video editor — we could use them for everything we do here on the site.

We expect big changes for Chromebooks later this year, but one question we see all the time is "What Chromebook is the best?" We're going to answer that right here and right now.

The Acer C720 is the best Chromebook you can buy.
