Motorola Droid X2 now live on Verizon site

15

The Xperia Play isn't the only phone to go live on Verizon.com tonight, the Motorola Droid X2 has also appeared, ready to order.  $199.99 (with a new agreement) gets you Big Red's first dual-core phone, (Paging Mr. Bionic.  Please pick up the white courtesy phone), or if you prefer to buy things without getting tangled up in a contract it will set you back $449.99.

The DX2 is catching a lot of heat for not having an LTE radio, but for those who don't live or work in an area that will see any LTE love in the near future, it should make for a great phone.  It's all about the choices.

Xperia Play pre-order page live, ships May 25

8

After the messy launch of the HTC Thunderbolt and the Samsung Droid Charge, Verizon's launch of the Xperia Play looks to be right on track.  The pre-order page has gone live, and as announced the pricing is $199.99 with a contract and $449.99 if bought outright.  We also see that orders will ship out by May 25, so it looks like you gamer types can have your PlayStation Phone in your hands the same day they arrive in stores.

While it's not the dual-core monster many are waiting for, looking at Dieter's hands-on from Mobile World Congress we see that the gameplay looks butter smooth.  We also had a chance to fondle them at Google I/O earlier this month, and they are quite snappy performers.  We certainly wouldn't blame you if you picked up one of these beauties.  Join the discussion in the Xperia Play forums to make the wait a bit more tolerable!

Full details of the MetroPCS Samsung Galaxy Indulge update

3

Have a Samsung Galaxy Indulge on MetroPCS? Wondering what that update you just got entails? We've got you covered, folks. Here's what's coming in over the air:

  • Handset will display 4G icon at all times when connected to the 4G network.
  • While powered on, handset will reconnect to the 4G network after it loses connectivity
  • Version of the LTE modem will display correctly (no longer as “Unknown”).
  • Customers can now turn off  GPS location storing when taking pictures.
  • Fixed issue where customers could not launch the Camera via the camera key after they removed the handset’s battery while in “preview” mode.
  • Updated software so that the correct message thread and conversations load according to the customer’s selection.
  • Fixed issue where the handset sends an SMS to the wrong contact.

And that's, that, folks. Pretty simple stuff. If you want the whole lowdown, head on past the break, where we've got the play by play.

Samsung Vibrant, Captivate, i9000 merged into CyanogenMod 7 tree

9

We've been seeing serious work on getting the GSM flavors of the Samsung Galaxy S line into the CyanogenMod 7 project for about three months, but now it's officially official -- the Samsung Vibrant, Samsung Captivate, and Samsung Galaxy S i9000 have been merged into the CM7 source tree.  Nightlies are currently building, and should be ready for you to test TDR's bandwidth very shortly.

Note that these aren't general release builds.  Nightly builds are prone to bugs, and best left for the advanced user.  If that's you, get ready to check the CyanogenMod mirror network for your version's build.

Nexus S 4G review

44

The Nexus S 4G is like the younger, faster brother of T-Mobile's Nexus S. It can do just about all of the same things, but is better at wind sprints, so it made the varsity team first. Otherwise, we're looking at the same beast on a different carrier.

How does that stack up for Sprint users, though? Is the Wimax-infused phone of yesteryear worth picking up? Or is it worth holding out for the newest phones on the horizon? (I'm looking at you, HTC EVO 3D.)

Buckle up, keep your hands, feet, and other objects inside the ride at all times, and join me after the break to find out.

Sony Ericsson Xperia Mini Pro coming to O2 UK in June

1

The new Sony Ericsson Xperia Mini Pro has arrived on O2 UK's "coming soon" page, and is slated to be available for sale through the network sometime next month. The Gingerbread-powered device manages to pack an impressive feature set into its diminutive chassis, including a 1GHz processor and 720p video recording functionality. There's no word on pricing yet, but you can probably expect to get this sucker for free without signing up to too crazy a contract.

Be sure to find out what we thought of the second-generation Xperia Mini Pro, and its little brother the Xperia Mini, in our hands-on feature from Google IO.
