The new Moto X for 2014 won't be coming in a developer edition flavor for Verizon Wireless customers, unlike the original model that was released last year. How much bigger is the LG G Watch R than a regular watch?

97
LG G Watch R

Not very. Though that depends which regular watch you're looking at.

On the left is what I would consider a large watch – or it sure is compared to others that I own – and on the right of course is the LG G Watch R. The G Watch R is a little bigger and a little thicker, but it's not perhaps quite as big as some images would lead you to believe.

Whether it's your style, that's a different question.

Sizing up the Huawei Ascend Mate 7 and Samsung Galaxy Note 4

50

Huawei's brand new Ascend Mate 7 has definitely turned some heads this week at IFA 2014, but with a 6-inch display there will no doubt be questions over its physical size. Despite boasting an 83% screen to body ratio, 6-inches is still a lot and the Mate 7 isn't a small phone. But to try and illustrate how big it actually is – or isn't, depending on your outlook – we've sized it up against the new Samsung Galaxy Note 4.

From the Editor's Desk: Sleepless in Chicago, and New York, and Berlin

59
Chicago

Three cities, and a mountain of coverage

We've done a lot of things and gone a lot of places in my five years of doing this job. New York. San Francisco. Las Vegas. San Diego. Chicago. Detroit. Orlando. Los Angeles. Seattle. London. Berlin. Barcelona. Seoul. Austin. Dallas. And that's just off the top of my head.

I don't remember ever pulling off — or being anywhere near as tired, or mostly satisfied — what we did last week. For Andrew Martonik and myself, it started with four devices from Samsung in New York, and hardly inconsequential ones at that. The Samsung Galaxy Note 4. The Samsung Galaxy Note Edge. The Gear S smartwatch. And the Gear VR virtual reality helmet. I'll wait and argue usefulness another day. As singular products, that was a pretty cool day of coverage.

And that's to say nothing of the (sort of) simultaneous live events in New York and Berlin. That's always a tricky thing to try to liveblog, as it starts to get confusing, for obvious reasons. It didn't help that New York started a good 10 or 15 minutes later than Berlin, so Andrew and I just held back and let Alex run that show. Of course, Andrew and I ended up standing about 8 feet from Maroon 5's Adam Levine and some other guy. (James Valentine, actually. C'mon, don't pretend you don't know there's more than one person in that band.) So there's that.

Coming off about 2 hours of sleep the night before the event, we pause just long enough in New York to pick up our bags, then head to La Guardia for a short hop to Chicago and Motorola. (Managed to catch my first game at Wrigley upon landing, though. It's not often I'm able to squeeze in a little fun time on these trips, but I'm glad we did in this case. What a ballpark.)

So, Motorola, and the new Moto X, Moto 360, and some pretty cool accessories. Imagine if Motorola had announced the Moto Hint on its own, say a month or so from now. It would have mostly been a footnote. Instead, it got tons of ink last week. (We'll do more on it when it's actually available.) That's damn good PR, folks.

And I'm still catching up on everything Alex, Richard and Derek did at IFA in Berlin. I can't say enough how great a job those guys did.

It was one hell of a week. And we're not done yet. This week Andrew and I are off to Las Vegas for the CTIA "Super Mobility Week." We're not expecting anything near as epic as last week, but coverage will start Monday, and you can catch it all here.

Getting fancy with the Galaxy Note 4 and Mont Blanc

60

The Mont Blanc accessories for the Note 4 are pricey, but pretty fancy, too

IFA 2014 As part of the raft of Unpacked announcements this week in Berlin from Samsung was news of a partnership with Mont Blanc for the Galaxy Note 4. If you're familiar with Mont Blanc then you're also going to be familiar with the price you pay for their pens, and that part has certainly followed the brand to the Note 4. Quality, yes, but with the price to match.

Eyes-on with the Acer CXI Chromebox

21

Prior to IFA 2014 actually kicking off, Acer announced the CXI, its latest Chrome OS device. In a break from the norm it's a Chromebox this time out instead of a laptop, and it's well priced and has a nifty little form factor that allows it to stand up vertically on a desk or be mounted to the rear of a monitor. While roaming the show floor we managed to grab a few minutes with the CXI.

First look at the Huawei Ascend G7

Ascend G7

Huawei brought a second metal phone to Berlin, and it's pretty nice, too

IFA 2014 Huawei had two brand new devices to announce during its IFA 2014, and both of them were metal. While we've already looked at the Ascend Mate 7, next up it's the turn of the Ascend G7 to step in front of the camera. Where the Mate 7 is firmly positioned towards the higher end, the G7 fits into the mid-tier market while still offering a premium feeling experience.

Multitasking on the Samsung Galaxy Note 4

Samsung overhauls its multitasking features in new Note 4

IFA 2014 As we said in our hands-on feature with the device, Samsung isn't reinventing the wheel (or the S Pen) with the newly announced Galaxy Note 4 — instead it's refining the great many features that are already there. One area that's received special attention this time around is multitasking — before split into three different (and largely disconnected) methods, Samsung's multitasking setup now lets you jump freely between minimized, maximized and windowed modes, with hooks into the redesigned recents menu to boot.

Read on to find out how you'll juggle your apps on the Galaxy Note 4.
