Another Gingerbread build is spotted, this time it's GRH47B

13

Let the teasing continue: Christophe writes in again to say he's spotted another build of Android 2.3 Gingerbread that reportedly is pinging his app. This time it's GRH47B (the previous sighting was of GRH14B), with the full string being Dalvik/1.4.0 (Linux; U; Android 2.3; Nexus One Build/GRH47B). Yeah, it's possible this is just a little trickery, but we doubt it. Now all we need is an actual build to leak out. Google, you know where to find us. [AIR Benchmark]

Rovio confirms Christmas edition of Angry Birds is on the way

16

The Twitter account for Rovio has been rather busy the past few days. OK, that's not true. They're actually busy every day, but even more so now that they've made mention of just how many Android users have downloaded Angry Birds (More than 7 million, in case you were wondering) but today's news is even more awesome.

Rovio has confirmed after some images appeared online that they are indeed planning on a Christmas edition of Angry Birds for release. When asked about Android getting stuff for Christmas and they advised that Android would indeed get in on some of the action as well. Angry Birds day is on Dec. 11, and a new release would fit in nicely for that day don't you all think – or maybe sooner?  [Ylex via @Roviomobile]

HTC Desire Z now available from Vodafone UK

2

While Vodafone has been advertising its arrival for quite some time now, they've never actually made the HTC Desire Z available to Android loving Vodafone UK users. The device has finally gone live on the UK carrier's website. Although, if you're in the UK and looking to pick one up, you might want to look at those tariffs carefully. The £25 per month tariff carries a £199 device charge while the £55 per month option has you walking away with the HTC Desire Z for free. [Vodafone via Eurodroid]

Sanyo Zio review

14

The Sanyo Zio is a new entry-level Android phone (we're reviewing the Sprint version) and one of the first devices to have the new Sprint ID system for customization.  I'm a huge proponent of replacing feature-phones with Android devices, and was pretty curious about what Sprint ID could bring to Android, so I was happy to have a chance to review the Zio.  Hit the break to see how it measures up.

Android Quick App: Keyboard Manager [root]

10

Switching between keyboards isn't that difficult, but it can be annoying if it's something you do frequently.  It's a few extra long presses and taps that can really slow you down if you just want to fire off a quick message.

I know some (most) of the 777 results for "keyboard" at AppBrain are skins and language packs, but Android is also home to several keyboard replacements.  And of those several keyboards, you may prefer one over the other, based on how well it functions in a certain orientation.

Personally, I don't long for separate keyboards in each orientation, but in case you do, developer ne0fhyk at XDA Developers has been working on a solution for you.

Join me after the break for more about Keyboard Manager, and a couple screen shots.

Samsung Stealth V (SCH-i510) gains DLNA certification - now what is it?

13

A new Samsung smartphone has been outed by the DLNA certification organization. The Samsung Stealth V -- aka the SCH-i510. The certification summary notes it has a 4.3-inch screen and 8MP camera. The SCH-i510 designation isn't too far off the Verizon Fascinate, which is SCH-i500, for what that's worth. We'll just have to see, won't we? [DLNA Certification - PDF] Thanks, Cesar!
