HTC BlinkFeed and Gallery updates bring One M8 bug fixes and tweaks

The HTC One M8 may have only been out for two weeks, but that doesn't mean there aren't updates to be had. Today HTC pushed out updates to both HTC BlinkFeed and HTC Gallery. In addition to the usual bug fixes and performance enhancements, BlinkFeed has been updated to let you "add more social content when you want" and the Foregrounder effect in Gallery now allows you to tap anywhere to apply the effect. Apart from that, bug fixes and performance improvements. Both updates are available now via the Google Play Store.

Android update coming with regular malware scans

A new Android update is rolling out that will add a bit more security when it comes to apps that may harm your device. The update from Google intends to make sure that apps installed on your device — from Google Play or elsewhere — are playing nice and "behaving in a safe manner". Currently the system scans applications at the time you install them, but now it will continuously check all the apps on your device, even after they've been installed.

How to get the vertical display on the Samsung Gear Fit

One of the big blunders of Samsung's Gear Fit was that the screen was horribly annoying to read in the horizontal orientation while on your wrist. It just didn't look right and you have to shapeshift your arm to be able to read it straight on.

With a quick update however, they've added a new option that lets you change the orientation to vertical instead — making things much easier to read. Of course if you like the horizontal layout better, that option is still there as well.

Developer mode is easy to get to, you just have to remember to enable it

As has been the case since Android 4.2, the developer options have been hidden by default from your Android settings menu. This is a good thing, actually, as it'll keep curious minds from potentially breaking things. It also helps keep your phone more secure.

But there are plenty of reasons why you would want to enable developer options on your Galaxy S5. If you want to plug in to a computer and do any sort of command-line work, this is going to be your first stop. Or if you need some extra debugging options as a programmer. Or, maybe you are that sort of curious creature who just wants to see how things work. Nothing wrong with any of that.

But, of course, you're going to first have to turn developer mode on for your Galaxy S5. Here's how to do it.

HTC One M8 is now available at retail from AT&T, Sprint, and Verizon

Verizon had the retail store lock down on the new HTC One M8 since the initial release, but now those of you with AT&T, T-Mobile and Sprint can get in on the brick-and-mortar sales fun as well. T-Mobile's availability kicks off tomorrow. The HTC One M8 is now available for purchase in carriers stores that aren't sporting a big red checkmark.

The Samsung Galaxy S5 launches tomorrow around the globe, but if you're on Telus in Canada and not into Samsung's dimples, might we suggest the now-available HTC One M8 instead? Telus started taking pre-orders for HTC's latest and greatest at the announcement on March 25th, and the phone is now available for direct orders.

T-Mobile offers up LTE tablets for the price of Wi-Fi models, free data through 2014

Yesterday T-Mobile introduced a new Simple Starter plan that could get you in the cellular door at $40/month, and today they're shaking things up again by reducing the price of their cellular-enabled tablets to match that of their Wi-Fi-only siblings. Additionally, T-Mobile customers that activate a new tablet will get 1.2GB of free LTE data through the end of 2014.
