HTC Evo Shift 4G benchmarks

21

YouTube link for mobile viewing

What's a new smartphone without some benchmark tests, eh? Here we have the new HTC Evo Shift 4G. And with it's 3.6-inch touchscreen, 800MHz Qualcomm MSM7630 processor and 512MB of RAM, the thing is downright speedy.  And it should be, it's basically the G2 with HTC's Sense slathered on top, and Sprints radios installed.

When we get back from CES we'll have more time to sit down with this one, but like mentioned in the video, it's a joy to use.  Sprint has another winner on their hands, and I'm loving the 4G here in Vegas.

No Froyo for Xperia X10 Series, says Sony Ericsson

19

Sad pandas all-round for Xperia X10 series owners today. Sony Ericsson UK has revealed in a tweet that the X10 series won't be getting any further Android updates beyond the current 2.1 Eclair release.

Sony Ericsson reasons that "the features included in the Android 2.1 phone are on par with, and in many cases better than, a vanilla installation of 2.2". While that may be true of functionality, X10 owners will miss out on the performance improvements brought about by Froyo's JIT compiler and V8 Javascript engine.

Sony Ericsson has incurred the wrath of customers in the past over the slow pace of OS upgrades for their Android devices. Xperia X10 devices have only just been updated to Eclair, having previously languished on the positively Jurassic Android 1.6.

Acer announces the beTouch E140, sports Froyo and 2.8-inch screen

4

It's starting to seem like every phone coming out of CES is running Android. But hey, we're not complaining here. Acer has announced the beTouch E140. The E140's screen size is a lot smaller than what we've been seeing coming out of CES. Compared to the Samsung Infuse 4G, this guy's screen is tiny. Here's what we know about the device so far:

  • Froyo (Android 2.2)
  • microSD card support (up to 32GB)
  • 2.8-inch touch screen
  • Built-in social media access
  • 3.2 mega-pixel camera
  • FM radio
  • 1300 mAh battery
  • Acer Spinlets streaming service
  • Acer UrFooz
  • Acer Sync
  • nemoPlayer
  • 3G+, HSPDA, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and GPS

Acer Iconia Tab A500 Hands-on [Video]

7

We hit up NVIDIA's table last night to see what sort of Tegra 2 awesomeness they had in store and lo-and-behold they were showing off the gaming chops of the Acer ICONIA Tab A500. If you didn't hear, the 10" tablet is coming to Verizon's LTE network and will sport Honeycomb, though this unit was rocking a fairly stock Android 2.2. So stock, in fact, that rather than poke around Android by pulling up the default buttons (they're brought on-screen with a swipe rather than existing as real button), we just took in the stellar performance of Dungeon Defenders.

Back to the Acer: hardware feels solid by dint of copious amounts of brushed metal, there's HDMI out, a proper USB port, and microUSB. Get your photos and a the video gaming demo after the break!

In what is most likely preparations for their press event today, T-Mobile has posted a link to the Dell Streak 7 on their homepage. While the link at this time just leads to a 404 error page, we're pretty sure it'll go live sometime soon. The Dell Streak 7 is no stranger to the spotlight though as pictures and even television ad walkthroughs have all been spotted previously. Stay tuned for more details on this one. [T-MoNews]
