Android Quick App: Plants vs. Zombies

22

Youtube link for mobile viewing

At long last -- it's time for Plants vs. Zombies on Android. And it's instantly addicting. Turns you into a Plants vs. Zombies zombie, even.

Gamplay is simple. You've got a house. Zombies are attacking your house. And the only thing standing between you and the zombies are your plants. You start out with just a few basic resources. Your single-shot plants, the sun to provide some, well, sun for the plants, and sunflowers for extra sun. You collect suns to purchase more plants. The more plants you have, the more zombies you can kill.

And that's it. Plants vs. Zombies doesn't require quite as much strategy as some tower defense games, which is nice, but it can seem a bit too easy at times, at least in our initial time playing.

Plants vs. Zombies is available now in the Amazon Appstore (free today, $2.99 regularly).

Sprint EVO 3D will come with 'The Green Hornet 3D'

73

Worried about having a 3D phone with no 3D content? Not gonna be a problem with the upcoming Sprint HTC EVO 3D. HTC's first 3D-capable phone will come preloaded with "The Green Hornet 3D" on its microSD card, Sprint said today in a news release.

And that's just the tip of the iceberg. The EVO 3D will also come with the HTC Watch app, which gives you access to 2D and 3D movies, as well as on-demand television programs. You can buy or rent and download movies, and you can save as many as five on HTC's service for watching on other HTC devices with the HTC Watch app.

And don't worry, you won't be stuck with "The Green Hornet 3D" for long. "Drive Angry" with Nicolas Cage will be among the initial 3D releases for the EVO, Sprint says.

You'll also have access to Blockbuster's On Demand app. Rentals will range from $2.99 to $3.99 each, Sprint says. Purchases will start at $4.99.

Sprint teasing EVO 3D via e-mail; not listed on rebates before June 23

23

Let's get back to the Sprint EVO 3D launch date for a second, shall we? Or, rather, the lack of a launch date. A bunch of you reminded us that when the EVO 3D was listed under "Week 4" in the recent version of the Sprint Playbook, it referred to the training cycle, and not so much a spot on the calendar. And that's correct.

But let's also take a look at the rebate schedule from said Playbook. The EVO 3D is nowhere to be seen for June 5-23. Now that doesn't mean things can't change -- we'd love to see it come out sooner rather than later. But all the info we currently have suggests we won't see a launch before ... wait for it ... the fourth week of June, at the earliest. But, again, that could well change.

Also, Sprint's started sending out e-mail teasers for the EVO 3D, which AC reader Jamie just sent our way. No, there's no launch date listed there, either, but it's another sure sign that we're marching steadily toward launch. Check it out after the break.

Plants vs. Zombies -- all 75MB of it -- now in the Amazon Appstore

65

The wait is over, folks. Plants vs. Zombies for Android is finally available. But it comes with a catch. First is that it's only available in the Amazon Appstore. No biggie. The other is that it's a whopping 75 megabytes. We can already feel your older phone creaking under the weight. (Never mind how long it's taking to actually download the thing. Lady Gaga's Amazon exclusive has nothing on this.) But for all those ones and zeroes, you get 49 killer plants and 26 varieties of zombies.

So get your download on at the link below, as the game is free today.

Download: Amazon Appstore; Thanks to everyone who sent this in!
