Samsung Illusion for Verizon appears on Flickr

4

Although the Samsung Illusion name has been tossed around before on some road maps there was never an official announcement made for the device. Now, thanks to a little slip up from Samsung on Flickr, we're getting a good look at a 3G-only device, but not much else. Specs seem to still be missing for the information but those will come eventually. What we do know though, is that the device is eco-friendly (which we've also seen in the Samsung Replenish):

Samsung mobile phones have been awarded a "green" certificate by one of the most reliable establishment in the US. Samsung announced on September 15 that its two mobile phone models including Ever Green phone (SGH-A667) and Illusion phone (SCH-I110) won a certificate of SPC (Sustainable Product Certification) by the Underwriters Laboratories (UL) in the US, an independent product safety certification organization, expanding its "green" phone line-up into three which also include Replenish (SPH-M580).

Yeah, we know -- not much to go on, but it's interesting that's for sure. What do you all think? A low powered budget device running an 800MHz processor or does it have something a little more beefier under the hood?

Samsung Galaxy S II Sprint Epic 4G Touch now available online from Sprint

57

Despite having the longest name in smartphone history, the Samsung Galaxy S II Sprint Epic 4G Touch is the first of the Galaxy S II devices to reach the United States -- you can hit up Sprint online and order one right now.  It's going to set you back $199.99 and a two year agreement (or $499.99 if you buy it outright), but for that money you're getting 1.2GHz of dual-core, and 4.52 inches of Super AMOLED Plus loving.  Toss in Sprint's Wimax 4G, and an all new version of TouchWiz, and there's a lot there to get excited over.

Settle in, dust off your credit card, and hit up Sprint -- then drop in the forums to spread the good word.  Things are gonna get busy in there I think!

Android Central at the LG Marquee unveiling at New York City's Fashion Week

3

LG brought New York City's Fashion Week to a close tonight with a panel discussion on the intersection between technology and fashion, followed by a swanky soiree high above Manhattan's Meatpacking District to unveil its next major device, the Marquee. While we got a peek at the Marquee last night at Pepcom, tonight offered yet another opportunity to get our hands all over it. If you're holding out for the next device on Sprint and are a little intimidated by the Galaxy S II Epic 4G Touch's huge 4.5-inch display, the 4-inch NOVA screen on the Marquee might be your perfect fit. It's not as fast or beefed up as some of its competitors, but the Marquee is respectable device in a stunning package, and easily the best looking LG smartphone to date.

Hit the break for some photos and a video with the Marquee, which I managed to snag before diving head first into LG's signature cocktail, aptly named "The LG." The Marquee hits Sprint shelves on October 2 for $99 on a two year contract. (Yes, I realize I flubbed that info in the video but be nice, I was nervous. There were runway models in the crowd.)

Motorola Droid Bionic gets a taste of Cyanogen Mod 7, but it's not quite ready

15

Youtube link for mobile viewing

Just in case you were wondering if CyanogenMod 7 would come to the Motorola Droid Bionic, the above video should clear that up. That is of course, CyanogenMod 7 getting a full boot on a Motorola Droid Bionic (read our full review) and while it's far from ready for the masses, it sure is a pretty sight. No telling how long we'll have to wait for a release (and no asking!) but we're certainly hoping sooner rather than later.

Reminder: Enter to win a T-Mobile G2X from Nvidia and Android Central [contest]

102

The T-Mobile G2X is one of the original dual-core monsters.  The specs are great -- a Tegra 2 power plant, 4-inch IPS display, HDMI out, and easy to hack the daylights out of.  Now that Gingerbread has shown up for it, it's a beast.  Yes, I'm a bit biased -- I use one myself for my Tegra Zone gaming addiction (ZOMG Fruit Ninja THD).  And you can enter to win one in Nvidia and Android Central's Tegra Madness giveaway!

Winning one is easy, just hit the forums and drop a note in the contest thread, and you're entered.  Each contest runs for 24 hours (midnight to midnight, Eastern Time), and we'll pick the winner at random, then announce them all in one big blog post next Sunday (Sep. 18).  Good luck to all, and be sure to enter all week!

Android selected to power Boeing's 787 Dreamliner entertainment system

10

Boeing has chosen Android to power the in-flight entertainment system of its 787 Dreamliner aircraft. For other aircraft, airlines are able to choose their own entertainment contracts, but the 787 will feature a package deal to save costs.

The inflight entertainment system will feature music, videos and apps that will run on screens ranging from 7- 17 inches. This is a big win for Android as it will see further expansion on all airlines that will use the 787 Dreamliner. If you know much about the 787, it has continuously been delayed. However, there is much anticipation for it and once it starts flying, it will likely be an incredibly popular aircraft due to its fuel efficiency. No word yet on when exactly we'll see Android inside, but it's an exciting prospect for the future.

Not even Android can save the BlackBerry PlayBook, has shipped just 200,000 units

41

We're going to let our pals at CrackBerry do the legwork on this one, but it's a number that needs to be noted here: RIM just announced in its Q2 earnings call that it's shipped just 200,000 BlackBerry PlayBook tablets -- and that's shipped, not sold -- in three months. We care, of course, because RIM's hacked a sort of Android emulator (they call it an "Android Player") onto the thing. But at this point, we're not even sure the might and muscle of Android can salvage things.

Sprint stores selling the Galaxy S II Epic 4G Touch a little early?

27

That blurry little slice of heaven you see here is the Samsung Galaxy S Epic 4G Touch, Esq. (See what we did there?) And it apparently is in the hands of Android Central Forums member Atomicvoice, who managed to get one out of his local Sprint store today after they called and told him to come pick it up.

Nobody's saying which store this was. But if you can't possibly wait another 15 hours or so, it might be worth a phone call or two.
