We saw the first confirmation of US pricing for Archos' new Honeycomb tablets last week, and now the 8-inch version has an official price tag in the UK, too. Archos' British web store is offering the Archos 80 G9 -- that's the 8-inch version -- for a highly competitive £199.99. At the current exchange rate, that comes to $314, just $15 more than the US price, which is something of a rarity for tablets. It's also about half of what you'd expect to pay for a 10-inch Honeycomb tablet like the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1.

In addition to the 8-inch display, the 80 G9 gives you a 1GHz dual-core OMAP4 CPU, 8GB of internal storage and Android 3.2. The product page doesn't say how much RAM the device ships with, but we heard at Archos' press event back in June that low-end models would have 512MB, compared to the usual gigabyte found in most Honeycomb tablets.

Find out more about the 80 G9 and its big brother, the 101 G9 in our hands-on report from Archos' London press event.

Archos 80 G9 Honeycomb tablet now available in the UK for £199

It seems there will be three variants in each size - the 8Gb, 16Gb and 250Gb-HD. So far it is not clear if the internal USB2 socket (for the 3G dongle), or the external micro-USB socket has full host capability. I know they say it does in the specifications sheet, but in my experience it will only support externally powered devices; you have to watch Archos on such matters.

Interestingly they have a 1.0GHz OMAP4 Dual Core processor in the 8Gb version and a 1.2GHz OMAP4 Dual Core processor in the "turbo". So, what happened to the 1.5GHz OMAP4 Dual Core processor they promised us!? Perhaps only the hard drive version will get that.

I have been using the Gen8 Archos70-250Gb since January. It can be a bit laggy in some applications, but plays almost any audio or video format (with the cinema plug in); unfortunately it only has a 800x480 screen. I will be looking hard at the new tablets and Ice-Cream before I decide to replace my Archos70.

sadly i replaced my archos 70 =( the hdd load and laggy response killed it for me after 7months. i replaced it with the acer a100 and boy it reminds me of my archos but FASTER! good thing there coming out with 64gb sd cards in the mean time 32gbs will do plus the additional 16gb on board.
