Kik is a cross-platform non-SMS messenger app that's become extremely popular as a group messaging platform to avoid paying fees for sending messages between users around the world. It offers both one-on-one and group messaging, as well as multimedia messaging and a unique feature that lets you share games and music between users.
Unlike some messenger apps Kik doesn't require you to input your phone number or have your unique account tied to a phone number. Kik is entirely free to use, but monetizes its app with in-app purchases for different items you can send in your messages.
