A quick look at the Nexus 9 Magic Cover

Nexus 9 Magic Cover

$39 gets you a capable, easy-to-use cover for your Nexus 9

Here we have a quick look at the retail version of the Magic Cover for the Nexus 9 tablet. And fortunately a quick look is all we need to tell you that this is a capable, easy-to-use cover. We've had origami-type covers leave us frustrated in the past, but that fear quickly subsided with the Magic Cover.

One side is polyurethane and is meant to face outward, with the inward-facing side a softer suede-like material. Don't be surprised if you find yourself forgetting which is which though. (Hint: the "nexus HTC" logo goes on the inside.) Magnets keep everything in place when the cover's flat on the front or back of the tablet, though we are a little curious how it holds up to be jostled around inside a gear bag. They're strong, but they're not that strong.

Santa Phil Contest Extravaganza Day 1: Win a OnePlus One!

95
OnePlus One

We're going to kick off our six days of non-denominational, just-because-we-feel-like-it gift-giving with one of the year's most sought-after phones. And that's partially because the OnePlus One is a really good phone. It's also because you couldn't buy the damned thing (and mostly still can't) without "winning" the right to do so thanks to its annoying invite system. That's really no way to go through life.

The OnePlus One turned out to the one of the most affordable high-end phones of the year, thanks to its 5.5-inch, 1080p display, Snapdragon 801 CPU, 3GB of RAM and a 13MP camera. It's not perfect — it's too big for some, having optional (yes, really, optional) hardware buttons is just nuts, and the camera was a little disappointing. But it's also loaded with CyanogenMod, so the software will be up to date faster than many phones.

So we've got one. One of you is going to win one. Here's how:
