Well isn't that cute? Pictures of the world's second smallest Android handset, the Huawei Joy (aka Vodaphone 845), have turned up on the Internets. (What's the smallest, you ask?) With a 2.8-inch screen and a 3.2 MP camera, the specs aren't anything to write home about, but it does cover all the bases and it is an adorable little gadget, isn't it? HTC, maker of amazing Android phones, is reportedly working on an Android Tablet, which we're going to assume is going to be just as amazing. The details on the tablet device are unclear; HTC rep Quinton Leigh simply revealed that an Android "tablet" -- it might not be the traditional tablet shape -- is in the works. This is definitely exciting because even though Android Tablets have been announced before, none of them came from a company that puts making great devices first, everything else second.

Leigh also stated that Android mobile phones will soon pack 1080p video and 5.1 surround sound. We're not sure how soon (or realistically) that'll come to be, but given that HTC delivers top notch hardware (see: Evo), it's certainly within the realm of possibility. The argument of whether we need 1080p video and 5.1 surround sound on a mobile device is a completely different matter.

So yes, HTC is once again pushing the envelope of innovation. What's new? [phonereport.info]

The success of the Google Nexus One has been up for debate since the phone first launched in January. Google adopted a non-traditional way of selling the phone, opting to solely sell it online at Google.com/phone and not making it available in any brick and mortar store, even as a dummy device for consumers to try. And so stories arose from analysts who said the Nexus One wasn't selling as many units as anticipated. While we still have no official numbers, Google did give the following statement during this afternoon's Q1 earnings call:

"It is a profitable business for us. ... We are driving the business to be a profitable business from the get-go."

Added VP of engineering Jeff Huber during the Q&A session:

"We're not disclosing the specific number ... We are very happy with the device uptake and the kind of impact that it's had across the industry."

Huber refused to answer if Google had any plans to change its sales model for the Nexus One.

Take all that however you want. And we may never know just how profitable the Nexus One is, or what Google's own expectations were.

The Android Market now has 38,000 applications available for download, Jeff Huber, Google's senior VP of engineering, said during this afternoon's Q1 earnings call. It's not often we get even semi-official numbers out of Mountain View, but there you go.

Also, we put quote marks around "apps" because as we all know, there are a goodly number of ringtones, skins, wallpapers and any number of other things in the Market that we wouldn't normally consider apps. So there you go.

Google this afternoon released its Q1 2010 earnings report, showing $6.77 billion in revenue over the first three months of the year -- a 23 percent increase over 2009. Net income was $1.96 billion, up from $1.42 billion over Q1 2009. As of March 31, the company -- which employs more than 20,000 people -- had $26.5 billion cash on hand. Full press release here. Personally, I know there are periods of time where I have to walk away from my Droid (sad, yes I know it is a bit difficult each time it happens), and I know that people get extremely frustrated when phone calls go unanswered. You've probably noticed we love Firefox mobile.  With good reason, the desktop client is clearly a great bit of software and everything we've seen makes us think the mobile version will be too.  Well it looks like the Maemo version of Firefox Mobile 1.1 (Fennec for us geeks) is about ready for a beta release. What's uber-cool, and surely will be in the Android version is the ability for add-ons to hook into the app.  Yes, pretty much like they do in the desktop application.  The highlights here are easily the site identy information (above) and the save as pdf feature of readability.

At present there are over 90 add-ons for mobile FireFox, and I'm sure as Mozilla keeps advancing the project we will see more of them spring up.  Yes for Android too.  There's a couple more screen shots after the break, well worth a look.

It was all over but the press release. For weeks now we've seen information about the HTC Incredible -- now officially the Verizon Droid Incredible -- pour out of the woodwork. And now, it's real.

For all intents and purposes, what we're looking at is the HTC Desire with Verizon branding. Same 3.7-inch 480x800-pixel AMOLED capacitive touchscreen, same HTC Sense user interface, same trackpad instead of a trackball. Same 1GHz Snapdragon processor. The camera's been upped to 8 megapixels, and there are 8 gigabytes of internal memory for music, photos and video.

But what about the Verizon Nexus One? Make no mistake, this is not it. The Nexus One is Google's baby. The Droid Incredible is Verizon's. And at this point, it's poised to do major battle with Sprint's Evo 4G come summertime. The Incredible will arrive first, slated for preorders on April 19 (that's Monday) and will be in stores on April 29. Pricing is set at $199 after two-year contract and a $100 rebate.

The Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 Mini and X10 Mini Pro are both expected to hit Rogers this summer. We're not denying that it could happen, as when we played with the X10 Mini and X10 Mini Pro at MWC they both felt ready, but given the ridiculous circumstances that have delayed their big brother device, the Xperia X10, it wouldn't be a surprise to see these two somehow delayed as well. But maybe, just maybe with the Xperia X10 officially launching on Rogers on April 15th, these two will stay on track. Miracles can happen after all. [mobilesyrup]
