U.S. Dell Streak may skip Eclair, go straight to Froyo

11

 Dell Streak

The bad news: The U.S. version of the Dell Streak launched with Android 1.6. The good news: It might skip Android 2.1 altogether and go straight to Android 2.2. Normally I'd never pass up a perfectly good Eclair (to which my waistline would sadly nod its head in agreement), but in this case I'll make an exception. A leap to Froyo would make sense, and let's hope we start seeing a few other phones (cough, Xperia X10) follow suit. [@LionelAtDell via Engadget]

HTC Bee and Lexikon specs begin to leak out

14

HTC Bee and Lexikon specs

Specifications for the upcoming HTC Bee and Lexikon have partially leaked out, and from what we see here, both are something to look forward too.  The Bee, which we've talked about before, is rumored to be heading to Verizon and Cellular South and looks to be a great entry-level device.  Froyo, Sense UI, and a small (3.2-inch) screen should make for a snappy little phone, even with a dated 528 MHz processor.

The Lexikon, with a larger (3.8-inch) display, a QWERTY keyboard, and a factory-underclocked MSM7630 Snapdragon processor sounds a whole lot like the HTC Vision/G1 Blaze supposedly headed for T-Mobile, which may or may not be the first HSPA+ Android phone.  Yeah, there are a whole lot of ifs and maybes, but that's what happens when you're dealing with leaks and rumors.  We're not complaining --  we love getting them.  [911sniperBlog] Thanks Tommy!

CyanogenMod RC3 hits for Nexus One

24

CyanogenModChances are if you have a Nexus One you don't mind a little hackery. And chances are you're already a devout follower of the way of Cyanogen. And with that, a third release candidate the CM6 ROM has been released, bringing more (and better) custom Froyo to the N1.

As always, we recommend backing up all your apps and data first, just in case. Then get to downloading (either at the source link, XDA or Rom Manager), and have at it! [CyanogenMod]

HTC USA now selling official Nexus One accessories

23

Nexus one official accessories

HTC's ShopAmerica website now has official Nexus One accessories available for order, including the official desktop dock (see our review), and the car dock (review).  If you just never got around to buying a dock for your Nexus One, then shook your fist in vain when Google stopped selling the Nexus and its accessories, this is great news.  Do note that both docks are on backorder, so "now available" really means "order now," and wait until at least August 17 for shipping.  I've ordered mine -- anyone else jumping on these so they aren't left in the cold if they disappear again? [HTC America] Thanks Tom!

 Droid Incredible is Incredible!

How incredible is the HTC Droid Incredible? A couple of homegrown commercials posted in our forums have completely nailed what would make my perfect smartphone. And I'm hoping a future installment will make me a drink. Ease on past the break to see what we're talking about. [Android Central Forums]

From the Forums -- Show off your Droid X screens

Droid X screen

Blur gets a lot of undeserved hate.  Sure it may not be as pretty out-of-the-box as Sense, or as sleek and lean as stock Android, but PhilBlur can look great if you take the time.  Check out some of the great looks members have going on in the Droid X forums! Adding pauses into contacts for dialing extensions

17

Let's face it: we all have to deal with those automated call systems from time to time. They can be particularly annoying if they block you from connecting directly to the person you are tying to get by entering an extension number.

Well, there is an easy and simple solution to this problem. You can create a contact and enter in the proper extension number. Using commas, you can force the phone to wait before entering in the next number; each comma will give about 2 seconds of delay.

Try it out, and hopefully this will make calling that one vital work contact you have a much less frustrating experience! Thanks to Android Central Forums user Qazme for the tip in this thread!

Oh Augen tablet, where art thou?

13

Can't surf with a raincheck

A long time ago, in a Kmart far, far away

Looks like my quest for an Augen Gentouch 78 tablet will end in failure.  Word is that Kmart has halted sales of this jewel mediocre tablet, possibly because of the big ugly Android Market SNAFU,  or the huge number of returns, or maybe because there's a global Kmart plot to keep one out of my hands.  Anyhoo, reports are in from those who ordered online that the orders are canceled, and after endlessly bothering my local Kmart, I was told that all orders for the tablet are to be filled with either an even lower spec Augen Android netbook, or the Augen 7" eReader running some ARM variant of Linux.  I guess it just wasn't meant to be, and I'll have to wait for the next mythical Android tablet.  [AndroidTablets.net]
