New Sprint Evo 4G models will have different software version

The admin at the official Sprint Community forums has made a small, but good-to-know announcement about the Evo 4G and the software version numbering. Sprint says Evos sold in November will have a different software version number than previous units. New models will have a software number of 3.30.651.2, and older models will have 3.29.651.5. This is due to a parts difference, and both versions are fully able to get further updates. No idea what the new part is, but Sprint assures us it won't change the user experience.
If you buy an Evo this month, tap the menu button > Settings > About phone > Software information, and you can check your version number. [Sprint Community] Thanks, Edgar!

Android Central App Version 2.0 brings a host of improvements

Fresh out of the oven comes the official Android Central App, version 2.0. It's been a little while since the initial release, and we've definitely been listening to all of your feedback.
Here's what you have to look forward to in the latest version:
- Updated graphics to match the website.
- That pesky ad (hey, we have to pay the bills) has been anchored to the bottom of the screen, it's not nearly as sensitive now, and the appropriate parties have been flogged.
- There's an all-new alert framework for those of you on Android 2.2 that should make alerts much more alerty.
- Podcasts are fixed again, so you can listen to them in-app.
As always, if you have any problems or suggestions, leave them for our developer (Notice Software) in our developer's forums.

Verizon internal screens confirm Droid 2 Global launch on Nov. 11

Everyone's pretty certain that the Droid 2 Global will be launching on Nov. 11, but we love confirmation. These shots from Verizon internal systems are music to our ears ... err, eyes. Above you see both colors with a big "coming soon" label attached, and after the break we have shots of both colors with that Nov 11 date in tow. 1.2 GHz? Check. Two colors? Check. Do want? Check. Hit the break to see the other shots. Thanks, you-know-who!

Might the Droid Incredible HD be a Verizon Android LTE device?

Let's stir the LTE pot a little, shall, we? Well-known Verizon tweeter @black_man_x dropped a bit of a cryptic hint this afternoon that the rumored Droid Incredible HD -- that's the one that's been rumored to be coming Nov. 23 and looks a hell of a lot like the European Desire HD -- is "almost HD ... and LiTE as a feather." He later responded that it's the same device that BGR posted a pic of, and that the hardware has "been refined a bit."
Now remember that we've heard tales of the Verizon CFO carrying around an LTE device. It may be from LG, or maybe it's this one.
And let's stir the pot even more: Another tweet could point to an even higher screen resolution than the 480x800 we have now: "N u haven't seen red zone till u see it in HD," likely referring to the NFL Red Zone app.
So what do we know? It's no great surprise that Verizon's working on LTE phones, with its 4G service launching in the coming weeks. And now it sounds a lot like HTC may be at that party early. Thanks, Jared!

Reminder: Win a Galaxy Tab from Waze (and help beat TiPB and CrackBerry!)

Here's a reminder, folks, that you've got five more days in our ongoing contest, and we're neck and neck with our sites sites at the moment. We're partnering with Waze to give away Galaxy Tab (or an iPad if you're feeling cross-platform). Here's how it works:
- Download and install Waze from the Android Market (you can use the QR code here.)
- Drive around with Waze and collect "Road Goodies" - which basically just means drive over the Android logos as you move about your city. As you can see above, they are *everywhere*.
- It's a competition between iPhone users, Android users, and BlackBerry users - which is to say you're up against the kids from TiPb and CrackBerry.com. Whichever site whose users collect the most Road Goodies will win and be able to give a tablet away to one of their users - selected randomly from amongst the top 25 collectors. Remember - you only get credit for driving over the Android icons.
- That's it! Use Waze, collect Road Goodies, and stick it to those iPhone and BlackBerry users while automatically getting a chance to win an iPad or Tab
What's Waze, then? It's a free social mapping tool: you can get directions, find out where the traffic is, ping other users, and generally find your way around while helping other Waze users get better location and traffic information. Check out the full details on the Waze Blog.

Well, this Saturday, November 6, RadioShack is giving its Facebook fans a free Android phone from AT&T, Sprint or T-Mobile, just for liking the brand on Facebook. The offer is good from November 6-9. Lookator gives a whole new angle to viewing available Wi-Fi networks

While out and about, many of us search for available wireless networks to connect to, and Lookator gives you a whole new way to search. Viewing items on a map can be a bit confusing, especially if you are in an area that is loaded with buildings, but with the new view it is easy to tell.
After loading the free application, it will launch your phone's camera. Any available networks will be overlayed on the screen. The application will show you not only where the location is, but additionally the strength of the signal at that location so you are able to determine which you wish to select.
If you search for available networks while on the go, and want to be able to better determine where exactly the signal is coming from, this free application is a must-have for you. Video of it in action and download links are after the break. [via JK on the Run/Gigaom]
